Irises Forever

"Irises Forever" was painted for and given as a wedding present to my son, Ben, and his wife, Chrissie.  Irises are the first flowers that Ben gave Chrissie and remain their favorite.

Grasshopper

The "Grasshopper" is an etching. So far, 13 artists proofs have been painted.  Line up for the first of this series!

Mustang

This painting was done as a Christmas present for a man who owns the car. It is a special edition Mustang - the name I can't remember! Maybe Parnelli Jones.  It was given to him as a surprise by his sister.

Cade's Cove Winter

Cade's  Cove Winter was selected as my first attempt of a snow scene.  It is located in the Smokey Mountains near Gatlinburg, TN.  As a child I fondly remember walking over the rocks in its creeks, swinging on a rope and dropping into the river/creek to swim and telling ghost stories with my friends as we camped out there.  I used the white of 300 lb. cold press Arches paper and washed on Payne's Grey to get the effects I wanted.

Tuscany

"Tuscany" is my largest watercolor to date, framed out about 40x50 inches.   It resides in a bachelor museum near San Francisco, CA.  I painted it from a picture of my friend Dan W.'s palatial estate near Florence, Italy.  I hope to actually visit the site someday.

Leaves

This picture and Grandpa's Porch were studies done in a more Impressionist style.  I enjoyed the freedom with which I encountered in doing them.

Grandpa's Porch

This impressionistic painting was 'juried' in to the B.R.A.G. (Bay Rivers Art Guild) show where it currently hangs until March 9th in Daphne, AL.

In the Jungle

The African lion was my first commission.  It is a watercolor on paper which took approximately fifty hours to draw and paint.

It was commissioned by Susan M., a good friend who went on a safari with her son Jonathan (a Marine Captain) just before he shipped out for Afghanistan.  They still argue over who actually took the photo.  It doesn't matter to me, as it is one of my favorites.

My Art

Brussels 1969
I received my bachelor of fine arts from Auburn University in 1967.  I ended up taking over my father-in-law's cash register company, and my art took a backseat to running the family business (and raising three hellions/precious children).

In spring of 2010, I sold the family business and returned to my passion of watercolor painting.

This painting is from a photograph I took in Brussels in 1969.  It was always my favorite photograph.  It had a certain feeling to it with the policeman looking at the adoring flower market lady.

I've begun my second career, and am excited to share it with you.
